KATHMANDU, Oct 31: The UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala to withdraw NC´s prime ministerial candidacy to end the current political deadlock.

At a meeting held at NC President Koirala´s residence in Maharajgunj Sunday morning, Chairman Dahal urged Koirala to withdraw the candidacy of Ram Chandra Poudel to start the process of consensus afresh.[break] Koirala, however, turned down the Maoist proposal.

According to NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Koirala told Dahal that NC was against withdrawing prime ministerial candidacy without forging agreement on issues related to peace process and constitution drafting.

“You told us earlier that there would be consensus shortly after the resignation of prime minister. But that did not happen,” Sitaula quoted Koirala as telling Dahal.

During the brief meeting that lasted for about 15 minutes, Koirala urged Dahal to implement all the agreements reached in the past to forge consensus and take the ongoing peace process to a logical end on time.

“There was no such new proposal from the Maoist side,” said Sitaula. “It was like a courtesy call of Dahal after his return home from China trip.”
