KATHMANDU, July 24: The Walk for Nepal 2012 Campaign by Nepalko Yuwa, a global Nepali youth movement, was launched at Cambridge, Massachusetts on July 22.

The first Walk of this year’s campaign will be held at Carson Beach area in South Boston on September 22, following which will be Dallas on October 20, and New York on November 3.

Registrations for interested walkers will start from August 1, the date when interested sponsors can also start contributing to the campaign.

While last year, 300 people contributed around US$20,000, this year Nepalko Yuwa hopes to gather 1,500 people and raise US$100,000 from various charitable organizations.

Many organizations like Friends of Maiti Nepal, Empower Dalit Women of Nepal, Grassroots Movement in Nepal, and Himalayan Healthcare, focused on social causes, are participating in Walk for Nepal 2012.

The objective behind the Walk for Nepal campaign is to utilize the net worth of the growing Nepali population in the US and around the world to make meaningful contributions to the needy communities in Nepal.

The organizers also hope that awareness of the works done by many people and organizations outside of Nepal will also increase, leading to cooperation among organizations involved in social causes in Nepal.

Walk for Nepal functions through its principles of practical philanthropy and youth innovation. As their press release states, 80% of the funds raised by partner organizations will be processed back to the partners by Nepalko Yuwa to utilize on their projects in Nepal.

It further states that 20% of the funds by the partners will be contributed into a common “Walk for Nepal” fund which will later be used to award the social-cause projects in Nepal.

Nepalko Yuwa will collaborate with the Association of Youth Organizations – Nepal (AYON) for this award.

All financial statements are available in the Walk for Nepal website www.walkfornepal.org.
