Voting for National Assembly election concludes across seven provinces, results to be out by this evening

KATHMANDU, Jan 25: The casting of votes for the National Assembly election has concluded across all seven provinces of the country.

The voting, which commenced at 9 AM for the election of 19 seats which will go vacant on March 4, concluded at 3 PM, said Shaligram Sharma Paudel, the spokesperson at the Election Commission (EC).

“A total of 99.32 percent votes were  cast,” said Paudel.

A total of 51 candidates from eight political parties are contesting in the election, with voters comprising members of provincial assemblies, mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons of local levels.

However, in Koshi Province, three significant figures, including the Mayor of Dharan sub-metropolitan city, Chairperson of Gramthan Rural Municipality Jay Prakash Gachhadhar, and suspended Jay Narayan Shah of Jhapa Rural Municipality, refrained from voting. 

In Madhesh Province, there was one voter omission, while Bagmati Province reported five such cases. 

In Gandaki, Mayor Dev Kumar Nepali of Dhorpatan Municipality did not take part, and two voters abstained in Lumbini Province. 

Likewise, Karnali Province observed complete voter participation. 

Sudurpaschim Province documented 226 votes cast. 

The vote counting process is scheduled to begin across all provinces, and results are expected to be released later this evening.
