KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The Election Commission, Nepal (ECN) has stated that a fine of Rs 25,000 will be imposed if vehicles are found operating without permission on the day of voting during the by-election on December 1.
Under Section 25(1) of the Election (Offenses and Punishments) Act, 2073 BS, political parties, candidates, election representatives, or any other person are not allowed to use or permit the use of more vehicles than the number specified by the ECN, or use vehicles without the permission of the commission or the election officer, in the course of election campaigning.

Issuing a press release on Sunday, the ECN stated that any person engaging in such actions contrary to the law may be fined up to Rs 25,000 by the commission, election officer, or monitor. The official imposing the fine also has the legal authority to confiscate the vehicles used for such purposes for the entire election period.
Therefore, the ECN has cautioned all concerned not to use or allow the use of vehicles for activities that violate election laws. The commission has also clarified that it has received reports of vehicles being used with loudspeakers for election campaigning and has directed the local administration to confiscate such vehicles and take necessary legal action.
