KATHMANDU, May 7: One of the influential youth leaders belonging to the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Thapa has termed the recent COVID-19 vaccine scandal a ‘crime’.
Taking to his twitter handle, MP Thapa maintained that the facts that have come to the public domain about COVID-19 vaccine procurement scandal shows that it is not just a case of corruption but also a ‘crime’.

Thapa alleged that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was himself involved in the scandal. “PM Oli was well aware of this. Instead of acting against it, he got himself involved in it,” Thapa wrote. “There is no point in asking those accused in the scandal to conduct an investigation into the case.”
Thapa has also urged the federal parliament to fulfill the responsibility to investigate the crime.
Thapa’s remarks come in the wake of reports that the traders and commission agents working closely with PM Oli have been allegedly obstructing the COVID-19 procurement in Nepal, hiking the vaccine prices and pocketing commissions worth millions of rupees. The government, however, seems unwilling to act against those involved in the scandal.
