The event, which started out in 2003, was the brainchild of Yogendra Sakya, Chairman of Ace Hotels and Resorts.[break]
Parmita Sakya, of the organizing committee, said that the main reason to have the event was to carry on the tradition of kite flying.
She also said that these days there are so many events being promoted, and since kite flying marks Dashain, the organizers wanted to highlight the very festival.
“We didn’t have the event from 2008 because of unfavorable political and industrial situations,” she said.

She added that idea of corporate kite flying is also to develop relations between the corporate houses through the traditional sport of kite flying. She also clarified that besides corporate and business houses, even social organizations can participate.
“We also want to promote Nagarkot as a tourist destination. Since it stands at 7,200 feet, it’s an ideal place to fly kites. Furthermore, we don’t have such places to fly kites in Kathmandu,” she added.
The participation charge for corporate houses stands at Rs 12,000, which includes transportation, lunch and a souvenir t-shirt for each participant.
From each company, two people will be participating. Some 32 corporate houses are participating, and the preliminary round will take place on September 28 where the top four finishers will be chosen and the final winners will be announced on October 1.
The prizes for the winners are a Malaysia package for two, and consolation prizes include packages to Pokhara, Bandipur, and Nuwakot.
Besides kite flying, there will also be live performances and food stalls. On the first day, there will be performances by Sabin Rai, and on the last day by Mukti and Revival. There will also be magic shows, face painting, and games for children.
“Until now, everybody we’ve met and who have been there in our past events of Changa Chait have fond memories of it as it’s a family fun event,” said Parmita.
The event is open to all, and the cover charge per person is Rs 250 with coupons worth Rs 150 for foods and drinks.
The deadline for corporate houses is still open, apply by September 23.
