US envoy pays courtesy call on DPM Shrestha, discusses peace process

KATHMANDU, April 5:  US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thomson held  a courtesy meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha today.

KATHMANDU, April 5:  US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thomson held  a courtesy meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha today. 


During the meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ambassador Thomson expressed his concerns about the peace process and political stability in Nepal. According to a member of Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha's secretariat, Kamal Giri, Ambassador Thomson expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in the peace process in Nepal and expressed his willingness to work with his colleagues and partners for its continuity. The ambassador also expressed concern over the impact of political instability on development.

DPM Shrestha focused on the remaining work to be done in the peace process in accordance with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and aimed to seek cooperation from international organizations for Nepal's interests. He also informed Ambassador Thomson about the bill presented to parliament on the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission and a Commission on Disappeared Persons for the completion of the transitional justice process.
