Unique Biotech starts production of organic fertilizers

CHITWAN, April 20: Unique Biotech Organic Fertilizer Ltd has begun commercial production of organic fertilizer.

It has already launched its dust organic fertilizer in the market.


Officials of the company say they will soon start selling granular organic fertilizer in the market very soon. Hari Prasad Marahaththa, chairman of the company, said they were currently testing quality of granular organic fertilizer.

The company, which has been established with an investment of Rs 100 million, is spread over 3 bigha in Jagatpur VDC of Chitwan. It has the capacity of producing 50,000 tons of organic fertilizers annually.

Altogether 21 organic fertilizer factories have been registered across the country. Of them, only 17 are in operation.

Durga Prasad Dawadi, program director at Soil Management Directorate, said there are two factories in Chitwan producing granular fertilizer. "Unique Biotech is the largest organic fertilizer company in terms of investment. The government provides 50 percent grant on purchase of machineries as part of the policy to subsidize mechanization agriculture-based industries," he added.

Dawadi further informed that government has already paid Rs 18.4 million to the company to procure machineries.

The government introduced the program five years ago to provide subsidy on import of farm equipment and machineries to discourage increasing use of chemical fertilizers.

Unique Biotech uses excreta of elephant, manure of cattle, bones and other plants to produce organic fertilizer which is distributed in six districts.
