A team of UNHCR visited the district on Wednesday and met the journalists for information collection at the Federation of Nepalese Journalists´ district office. On Sunday, Basnet had threatened the reporters for not supporting him. He gave the threat message through Nagarik daily´s correspondent Dhruba Dangal on Monday.
Basnet had used abusive language over the phone and refused to listen to Dangal. He had warned of “dire consequences” to the reporters.
The FNJ district chapter has condemned the incident and asked Basnet to apologize to the media and respect press freedom.
