The award, formally known as the ‘UNESCO-Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers’ was announced at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on March 6, 2012.
Shanta Dixit, Director of the Foundation, said, “We are proud of this recognition by UNESCO, which validates our method of collaborating with the government authorities as well as local communities to improve the quality of education in government-run schools.”
The project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education of the Government of Nepal, seeks to improve the standard of instruction in all the 520 primary schools in the western district by training and motivating teachers.
It also aims to train each and every primary school teacher of Dailekh, which is a large hill district of Western Nepal. Halfway through the five year program, the RBF has provided in-depth training to over 1800 teachers and guided school officials and community leaders.
Through a formal agreement with the Ministry of Education in Kathmandu, the program was implemented in collaboration with the Department of Education, the District Education Office, the Village Development Committees, and the partner schools in Dailekh.
