BHAKTAPUR, March 13: Senior leaders of CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) are ready in principle to issue a new constitution as soon as possible.

They agreed on the issues of promulgating the new constitution; however, they differ on the number and the names of the federal provinces. The meeting held at UML chair KP Oli's residence at Balkot, Bhaktapur on Friday morning discussed the proposal of the two parties on the number of federal provinces, said UML chief whip Agni Prasad Kharel.

The UML has proposed six provinces federal model and UCPN (Maoist) nine province federal model, and each party is justifying why they were proposing the number of provinces, chief whip Kharel added.

Similarly, UCPN (Maoist) general secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara said that they were ready to issue the new constitution as soon as possible and discussed theoretically and will continue discussions on the core issues in the next meeting.

He added that the serious issues should be resolved on the consent of people rather than deciding from the confines of closed room. Leader Mahara said that parties should be alert on national integrity, sovereignty and nationality while restructuring the state.

A meeting of four major parties is scheduled for Saturday, tomorrow. RSS
