KATHMANDU, Dec 13: A politburo meeting of the ruling CPN-UML has decided to stage nationwide protests against UCPN (Maoist) for allegedly unleashing a series of attacks against UML cadres in Salyan and Rukum districts.

The party´s central body will make public the details of the incidents and protest programs on Monday, said party Secretary Yubraj Gyawali.

Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and other top leaders, including Bamdev Gautam, Ishwar Pokharel and KP Oli, are likely to participate in the protests in Salyan.

The Maoists had attacked UML cadres while the party´s district convention was underway in Salyan earlier this week.

The UML also claimed that Maoist cadres were involved in the attack of journalist Tika Bista, who was mercilessly thrashed before being thrown for dead in a forest in Rukum on Monday.
