Speaking at a gathering of party cadres organized by the UML Valley Coordination Committee for elections preparations, party Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and Vice-chair Bamdev Gautam emphasized on the need for an alliance during the elections while senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said alliance at the national level was not necessary.
Nevertheless, they agreed on the party becoming one to end up as the first political force following the elections.
Chairman Khanal said the UCPN (Maoist) became the largest political party in the previous elections at the force of weapons and terror and claimed that the UML would become the number one this time around if the elections was contested democratically.
He supported Vice-chair Gautam´s view of forging an alliance to guarantee that the constitution is drafting with a two-third majority.
Chairman Khanal also appealed to the cadres to put an end to all forms of groupism inside the party and work in unison for the upcoming elections.
Senior leader Nepal however said though electoral alliance may be worth at some areas at the local level, it was not needed at the national scale.
He also stressed that the UML should be able to move ahead by neutralizing the strategy and conspiracy of the UCPN (Maoist).
Party Secretary Yubaraj Gyawali, UML Valley In-charge Krishna Gopal Shrestha also pointed out the need of stronger unity in the party.
