Standing Committee meeting of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) has formed a panel to talk to other political parties on forming a cabinet.
The panel is headed by UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal. The party´s Vice Chairperson Bidya Bhandari, General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, Standing Committee member KP Oli and Secretary Shankar Pokharel are members of the talks team, said General Secretary Pokharel.
The party took the initiatives to form new cabinet after senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal got elected as a prime minister of the country on Saturday.
The meeting also decided to talk to Nepali Congress (NC) on forming the cabinet later in afternoon.
The meeting, also attended by prime minister-designate Nepal, discussed what the party’s position should be during preparation of the government’s common minimum program (CMP) and what should be the size in the government backed by 21 parties.
Leaders of major constituent in the coalition, Nepali Congress, also held an informal meeting to discuss the size of the cabinet and CMP of the government. In the meeting held at party President Girija Prasad Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj, senior NC leaders also discussed the name to lead the party’s team in the government and possible names in the cabinet, a senior leader told Republica over telephone.
Madhesi People’s Rights Forum and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party are also engaged separately in their internal homework for participation in the government.
The Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), however, has started stiffening its voice against the new government. Party’s Supremo and outgoing Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal instructed party cadres in a meeting Sunday morning to be ready for further struggle. He said the party was still in war but only the form of the war has changed.
