DHANGADHI, Sept 6: Minister for Health and Population Rajendra Mahato on Tuesday said that the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), an alliance of five Madhes-based political parties, will quit the government if the latter fails to conclude the peace process within 45-days.

“The government will conclude the peace process within 45-days and there will also be progress on constitution drafting. The government would lose its legitimacy if it fails to conclude the peace process on time,” Mahato told media persons in Dhangadhi. [break]

Mahato, who is also the Chairman of Sadbhawana Party -- a constituent of UDMF -- stated that key handover row within the UCPN (Maoist) would not obstruct the peace process.

He said the Maoists must fulfill their commitments regarding the peace process and constitution drafting. Mahato stressed on the need for national consensus government after completion of peace process in 45-days.

Stating that the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML must join the government after completion of peace process, Mahato said the people would not forgive these two parties if they obstructed the peace process.

On a separate note, Mahato said the government needs to do more in the field of health especially in the far western region.
