Addressing the fifth national conference of the UCPN (Maoist)-aligned Limbuwan National Liberation Front on Tuesday in Phidim, Dahal said the communist parties would be the most probable forces for his party to forge electoral alliance. [break]
“I have been making efforts to form a single-communist party in Nepal for this purpose and now deliberations in that direction are on” Dahal said adding that if he failed to form a single-communist party, his party on the state council level would ally itself with other communist parties to ensure the majority in elections.
Stating that things turned out to be problematic as political parties having similar agenda could not gain majority in the erstwhile CA and CPN-UML confided in the Nepali Congress, Dahal called on UML to mend ways. He claimed the parties following in the footstep of NC will finally lose grip on agenda that links them to the general public.
Dahal said the government has been authorized by the major parties to settle the unresolved issues including the threshold provision. “The government would announce the date of fresh CA elections in next three days,” he claimed, “It is almost sure the CA elections would held by the third week of November.”
Dahal further claimed that if the NC is not committed to democracy and if the UML does not become flexible on identity-based federalism, both the parties would lose their presence amongst the people.
While talking about his recent trip to China and India, Dahal said his visit helped create a conducive environment for the development of Lord Buddha’s birthplace, Lumbini and hydropower development.
“I was not visiting China and India to be blessed by them; rather I had on my agenda the country´s economic development. This priority would be continued in the near future too´” he said.
Dahal further claimed CA would not have dissolved, had the then CA chairman Subash Nembang remained defiant and started the CA session. “Unfortunately, the-then CA chariman seemed quite reluctant to begin the CA session,” he blamed.
Speaking at the conference, party’s Limbuwan state council coordinator Hemanta Prakash Oli said that they accepted to go through the peace process after the previous CA elections to take their revolution to a new height.
Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, a CC member of the party, said that the election is the only alternative for resolution of the country´s current stalemate. Pokhrel claimed that Dahal´s recent visit to China and India was for garnering international support for elections.
He also claimed that the party’s Hetauda General Convention gave a roadmap for his party to move forward in a constructive and confident manner.
Addressing to the conference, coordinator of the party´s Kochila state council and former minister Gopal Kirati described the UML and NC as regressive forces. He said the CPN-Maoist split from the party due to misunderstanding about holding some key party posts.
