U-23 national football team leaves to participate in AFC qualifying round

KATHMANDU, March 20: The U-23 Nepali national football team on Friday left for Iran to participate in the qualification round of the AFC Championship.

The team comprises a total of 31 members including 23 players. Jack Stefanowski is the head coach of the team with Balgopal Maharjan and Ramesh Neupane as assistant coach and manager respectively.


Nepal will play against host Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Palestine in the Group C for the qualifying rounds set to be held from March 23-31 in Iranian capital, Tehran. The games will be held in round-robin schedule. The victorious team and the first runner-up will gain entry to the hfinal round of the AFC Championship.

Head Coach Stefanowski expressed confidence the team would perform well as most of the players have had experience in playing senior football matches. He said a 'surprise result' could also be expected citing good preparation.

The team was bade farewell amid a programme held by All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

National Football Council (NFC) Member Secretary Yuvraj Lama and ANFA acting President Lalitkrishna Shrestha handed over the Nepali flag to the head coach and the team skipper and wished them a success. RSS
