The ICC on Thursday decided to organize the qualifiers in Malaysia from October 14 to 23.
Earlier, on April 16, the ICC had approved Nepal as the host of the qualifiers to be played by Nepal, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and the USA.However, issuing a press statement on Thursday, the ICC informed that the event will be held in Malaysia instead of Nepal following the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25.
According to the ICC, Nepal was due to host the five-team tournament, but, following a series of assessments after the recent earthquakes which devastated the country, it has been decided to relocate the event to the Malaysian capital.
The ICC informed that it coordinated with the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and other local authorities before making such decision.
"Due to the tragic events in Nepal in recent months, coupled with the infrastructure damage caused by the earthquake and the on-going relief operations, it has been decided that it would be better to relocate the tournament from Kathmandu," said ICC Chief Executive David Richardson, who further added that the ICC is committed to assist Nepal for cricket development.
"The decision was made following discussions with CAN. In the meantime, the ICC remains committed to assisting the development of cricket in Nepal and will be discussing a range of options in this regard at its next board meeting in October," Richardson added.
Nepal will play the qualifiers as it finished runner-up in the ACC U-19 Premier cricket held in Kuwait from November 9-16 last year.
The winner of the premier cricket, Afghanistan, got selected for next year's U-19 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh.
The team finishing top in the qualifiers will secure the only place available.
