U-15 Football finals to begin Wednesday

KATHMANDU, April 5: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) announced on Friday that the final rounds of Ncell U-15 Football Tournament will be held from Wednesday at Janakpur Cigarette Factory grounds, Dhanusha in coordination with Dhanusha District Football Association.



The final rounds will feature a total of six teams -- five regional teams and Armed Police Force (APF), ANFA General Secretary Dhirendra Pradhan informed during a press conference organized at the Dasharath Stadium premises on Friday. [break]The regional teams comprise players who were selected on the basis of their performances in district level tournaments across 42 districts affiliated to ANFA.



According to Pradhan, they will select the best players of the tournament to form an U-16 team for the SAFF U-16 Championship and AFC U-16 Qualifiers 2014. "Our main target is to pick players for the AFC U-16 Qualifiers to be held in September and the SAFF U-16 Championship to be held in May," ANFA President Ganesh Thapa said.



The participating teams of the week-long tournament have been divided into two groups of three teams each. The winner and the runner-up from both the groups will make it to the semifinals.



The winner and runner-up teams will be awarded Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. The best players in four different positions -- goalkeeping, defense, midfield and forward -- and the best coach will be awarded Rs 5,000 each. The expected cost of the event is Rs 1.4 million.
