KATHMANDU, Aug 6: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) on Tuesday sealed two more water bottling plants in Kathmandu on charge of selling substandard water and bottling water without seeking license from the concerned authorities.

The monitoring team of DFTQC sealed Shangrila Spring Drinking Beverage, Koteshwar and Aqua Pacific Beverage, Tokha. “We sealed Shangrila Spring Drinking Beverage as lab test showed presence of general coliform as well fecal coliform in the sample of bottled water produced by the company,” Pramod Koirala, spokesperson of DFTQC, said. Fecal coliform is found in the digestive systems of humans and other warm blooded animal. According to DFTQC, the presence of coliform gives indication of sewage contamination as well as the possible presence of other pathogenic organisms in water.

Likewise, the team sealed Aqua Pacific Beverage of Tokha as it was found producing and distributing water without acquiring license from the concerned government agency.
