KATHMANDU, July 10: Two lawmakers from Madhes-based political parties are likely to lose their Constituent Assembly (CA) membership.

While Sadbhavana Party (SP) has recommended the CA secretariat to annul party lawmaker Anil Jha´s CA membership, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) has decided to relieve Sanjay Sah of his party responsibilities. The disciplinary committee of the MPRF-D has also asked the central committee to recommend termination of Sah´s CA membership.[break]

“He didn´t acknowledge his mistakes. Neither did we see any indication if he would rectify them,” said Hemraj Tated, chief of the disciplinary committee, told Republica. “Hence, we recommended action against him.”

Following the committee´s recommendation, the party´s CC has directed Sah to furnish clarification from Sah within 72 hours starting Sunday.

However, Sah said the party does not have the authority to take such action against him. “I am also well aware of the laws. I will see how they take action against me,” Sah told Republica.

The disciplinary committee of MPRF-D had also sought clarifications from other two other lawmakers -- Karima Begam and Ramananda Mandal -- for their alleged involvement in activities against the party´s interest. But the committee decided to not take any serious action against them. “We decided not to take any serious action against them as it was their first offence,” said Tated.

Similarly, the SP on June 28 urged parliament secretariat to annul Jha´s CA membership.

Officials at the CA secretariat said CA Chairman Subas Nembang will table the SP´s proposal at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) for discussion. The BAC may then form a subcommittee to probe allegations against them. Jha´s membership would be scrapped if found guilty.

In the past, CA membership of Maoist lawmakers -- Matrika Prasad Yadav and Jagat Prasad Yadav -- was also scrapped as per the party´s recommendation.
