ITAHARI, March 12: Transport entrepreneurs and workers enforced a transport strike in Koshi Zone demanding declaration of a bus driver lynched by the members of a wedding party in Morang on Thursday as a martyr and compensation to the bereaved family.

Driver Sher Bahadur Magar was killed by the members of the marriage party at Govindapur in Morang after he asked them from traveling on the hood of the bus.

Hundreds of passengers traveling to different destinations in eastern Tarai and hill districts have been stranded as public transport services came to a standstill due to the strike. All public transport vehicles except private vehicles stayed off the roads.

Transport sector trade unions condemned the ´senseless´ murder and demanded stern action against the people involved in the killing.
