Those dead have been identified as Jaya Kumar Raya, 35; Goliya Devi Mandal, 32; Malbhogiya Devi Ram, 45; and Manduk Sahani, 36. [break]While Raya, Mandal and Ram are from Kisanpur village, Sahani is a resident of Babargunj-8. Rup Lal Raya, a resident of Kisanpur-8, who consumed hooch along with other villagers, has fallen ill.
They had consumed hooch at a local shop owned by one Isakh Sheikh. Locals allege that the hooch Sheikh was selling was spurious and toxic. Police have arrested Sheikh for investigation.
Locals say cases of deaths due to consumption of toxic liquor are on the rise due to police´s failure in cracking down on those who selling spurious alcohol.
