ROLPA, July 20: Four people from the same village died after consuming hooch, according to the police. They had gone to Baglung to work from Rolpa.


Four persons of the same village of Gajul, Sunil Smriti Rural Municipality-5, who were working at a drinking water project in Malkot, died at midnight.

The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Dipendra Pun, 39-year-old Dudh Bahadur Rana, Reg Bahadur Rana, 51, and Prabin Gharti, 30. Rabindra Pun, 26, and Khemraj Gharti, 38, are in critical condition. Police said that the condition of others who consumed the locally-made alcohol is normal.


They fell sick shortly after consuming alcohol at a local store.


According to DSP Iqbal Hawari, information officer at the District Police Office, Baglung, two of the people consuming the hooch died on the spot and the other two were rushed to a nearby private clinic where they breathed their last. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Dhaulagiri Hospital where the critically ill are undergoing treatment. Baglung police said that an investigation into the matter is underway.


According to the police, two persons including Bhadra Bahadur Thapa have been arrested for selling illegal liquor. Rolpa Police chief Naresh Raj Subedi said that they are in touch with the relatives of the deceased regarding the incident. According to him, preparations are being made to send the relatives of the dead and critically ill to Baglung.


After the incident came to light, it has been confirmed that illegal liquor is being sold and distributed in Baglung.
