Thousands of Bangladeshi tourists used to come through this border point, but the number has suddenly slumped. It has been learnt that European and American tourists’ arrival through this border point, too, has gone down. [break]
“The flow of the visitors used to be high in this border point during this season. The eastern border point has been found rather quiet,” said chief of the Kakarbhitta Customs Office Khem Raj Khanal.
Around 200 Bangladeshi tourists used to enter Nepal in the past through this border point daily, however, tourists rarely come through this point nowadays, said Khanal.
India has been strict to Bangladeshi tourists after the Mumbai attack last year. The Bangladeshi tourists have to get permission from the Indian government to arrive in Nepal as they need to come through Indian land, but when India turned tight over them showing security problem, their arrival becomes thinner in Nepal.
Though around 7,000 visitors got entry permissions to Nepal from the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka since mid-April last year, only 1,000 of them have been estimated to come through this point.
