KATHMANDU, June 30: The tourist bus park in Kantipath has been shifted to Sorhakhutte today. It had been in place in Kantipath since the past three decades. 

Parking on the road in Kantipath that sees thousands of vehicles plying had been creating a problem in traffic management and hence it had to be shifted, Chief of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division Basant Kumar Pant said.

More than 100 tourist buses used to leave for Pokhara and Chitwan every morning from the Kantipath buspark, providing service to around 3,000 passengers a day. The tourist bus entrepreneurs had been striving since long to have a permanent bus park, but to no avail. 

It will be a problem for tourists to shift the bus park from Kantipath, said Vice-chair of Tourist Bus Association of Nepal. "This could also affect the government's goal of bringing in 2 million tourists in 2020," he said. 

The tourist bus entrepreneurs have demanded that the service at Kantipath be continued until a separate and permanent bus park is built. RSS
