KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Civil Aviation Office has tightened security at the country’s only international airport targeting the upcoming Bay of Bengal Initiatives for Multi-Sectoral, Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) 2018. The 4th BIMSTEC Summit is being held in Kathmandu on August 30 and 31.

Issuing a statement on Sunday, TIA said that security will be beefed up at the airport on August 30 and 31. The statement added that nobody will be allowed to accompany air passengers at the airport premises for welcome and see off. “If the passenger is ill or physically challenged, one person will be allowed to accompany him/her to the airport,” the statement added.

Similarly, vehicles coming to drop passengers are not allowed to park their vehicles at the airport premises. At the same empty taxis are also not allowed to enter from Golden Gate, while motor vehicles coming to receive passengers will be allowed to enter the Golden Gate only five or 10 minutes before the aircraft lands.
