KHOTANG, Aug 5: Three boys who were part of a school  educational tour have disappeared   in Gokyo lake in Solukhumbu. Pemba Dorje Sherpa, 17, Pemba Nuru Sherpa, 16, and Sunil Baraili, 16, went  missing on Saturday after they dived into the lake, which is situated 5,000 meters above the sea level.

They are all ninth graders at Khunjung Secondary School, Khumbu Pasanglamhu Village Municipality - 4. 

Thirty two students, two teachers and another staffer were on the educational tour. After the three boys went missing,  a state  of panic has gripped the whole group. 

According to DSP  Resham Parajuli in Solukhumbu, the boys were swimming in the lake when they suddenly  went missing. 

“It is learnt that the boys had gone to the lake for swimming. But they have not come back,” he said. 

Parajuli reported that the students had not sought permission from their teachers before going to the lake. Two of the boys were struggling to come out of the water when the third student dived in to help them. 

“Then all three disappeared,” Parajuli said. 

A seven -member team of police and parents of the boys had reached the site by helicopter  soon after the incidence to carry out searches. A second helicopter was also readied but  could not take off due to bad weather, Parajuli informed. 

“There is also a challenge with communications. We are doing our best. On Sunday, additional resources will be used and trained personnel will be there in the morning,” he stated. 

“Nothing more could be said about the situation as even telephone contact is not possible,” he added. 

A rescue team is already on the way and it will trek to the site, he also said. 

The site of the incident  is one and half days’  walk from the Area Police Office. If the weather does not improve on Sunday, the rescue team will proceed on foot, Parajuli said. 

The students had set off on the educational tour on Friday.
