KATHMANDU, Nov 18: The Government of Nepal has formed a three-member team to resolve the electricity tariff dispute.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers on November 10 decided to form the committee to resolve the issue related to unpaid electricity bills. The three-member committee has been formed under the leadership of Prof Dr Arvind Kumar Mishra from the National College of Engineering in Lalitpur.

The main task of the committee will be to accurately calculate the outstanding amounts from industries using electricity from dedicated feeders and trunk lines, from January 2016 to January 2019.

The committee will conduct technical and administrative investigations to determine the outstanding electricity bills. For this, the committee will collect necessary evidence and facts based on the recommendations of the Lal Commission's report.

The Ministry of Energy has stated that the purpose of forming the committee is to resolve the dispute by determining electricity tariffs for industries through a fair and transparent calculation.

The government believes that the committee's report will help determine the accurate amount of electricity dues and ease the implementation process.

Earlier in November 2023, the government had formed the inquiry commission under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal to resolve the dispute. The commission submitted its report on May 5, 2024.
