Three killed, 11 missing in landslides in West Rukum and Jajarkot

SURKHET: At least three people were killed and 11 are missing when a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall swept away houses in West Rukum and Jajarkot districts.


According to police, a landslide swept away the house of Tul Bahadur Damai at Aathbiskot Municipality-3 in West Rukum, killing his 28-year-old wife Sita and six-year-old son Habil. Likewise, his eight-year-old daughter Hira was injured in the incident.

The landslide swept away his house at around six Friday morning.


Likewise, another landslide at Barekot Rural Municipality-4 in Jajarkot swept away the houses of Gopal and Kallu Sarki, leaving 11 people missing, and one dead.


According to Karnali Provincial Police Office, rescue operations are underway, but the heavy rainfall and bad weather have hampered the operation.
