CHITWAN, June 20: Three people have died after rape in Chitwan. According to the statistical report published by INSEC, three have died in the duration of six months. The INSEC has stated that three from Rapti-1, Khairhani-10 and Ichhyakamana-3 have died during their treatment in Bharatpur hospital after they were raped.

Police stated that a woman of Ichhayakamana-3, aged 71 was raped by her nephew. Similarly, 35-year-old Gita Majhi of Khairhani Municipality-10 died during her treatment in May after being raped and brutally beaten by her husband.

According to Narhari Adhikari, Spokesperson at the District Police Office, Chitwan, the accused has been remanded in custody for trial by the court. A 27-year-old woman from Rapti also died due to rape.

She died on June 14 and the accused is still in police custody. Adhikari said that the investigation is going on. Purna Bahadur Ghalan, aged 45 from Makwanpur has been taken under custody after the accusation.

Likewise in Chitwan, 29 girls and women have been victim to rape in the past six months. According to statistical report published by INSEC, 25 girls and 4 women have been victim to attempt of rape. This number is higher compared to last year. Last year, a total of 19 girls and women had been victim of attempt to rape in the same duration.

The number of girls was higher last year too. Last year, there were 13 girls and 6 women victims of rape. One has been a victim of attempt to rape this year. There are 12 cases of child sexual abuse. Polygamy has also increased in the district.
