70-year-old Golda Meir makes history when she is elected as Israel’s first female prime minister. Meir died in Jerusalem on December 8, 1978 at the age of 80.
March 18, 1965: First Man to walk in space
Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov was a Soviet and Russian cosmonaut, Air Force major general, writer, and artist. On 18 March 1965, he became the first human to conduct a spacewalk. Leonov made history as the first person to exit his spacecraft for extravehicular activity.
March 19, 1932: Australia Sydney Harbor Bridge Opens
After some 20 years of planning, eight years of building, Sydney Harbour’s new bridge was ready for its official opening. The bridge was designed to carry road traffic, railway traffic and a footpath on each side.
