There is no room to doubt police investigations: DPM Shrestha

KATHMANDU, Oct 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has stressed the need for strengthening internal security affairs for prosperity, progress and good governance in the nation.

KATHMANDU, Oct 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has stressed the need for strengthening internal security affairs for prosperity, progress and good governance in the nation.


In his address to a program organized today at the Nepal Police Headquarters on the occasion of the 68th Police Day, the Deputy Prime Minister said the realization of the rule of law has been possible in the country due to the roles of Nepal Police remaining as the major actor in maintaining internal security.


He said the sacrifice of Nepal Police employees who are always stationed for the safety of citizens by keeping individual interests and familial responsibilities secondary is the inspiration for each generation.


Home Minister Shrestha said Nepal Police is fulfilling its role assigned by the State to the best of its ability despite the availability of limited resources.

"Each member of Nepal Police is performing confidently to overcome each and every adversity faced by the citizens and the State," the home minister said. 


He wanted Nepal Police to prepare itself ever-ready for combating new methods of crime supported by new innovations and the advanced technology and for preventing potential offenses ahead.


Stating that impartial investigations would serve justice to the affected, leading to an end to impunity, he said, "There is no room for doubting the police investigation. I am confident that Nepal Police never makes any compromises under any circumstances regarding its commitments to fair investigation." 


On the occasion, the home minister remembered all those police employees attaining martyrdom while serving for the nation and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured ones.  "The government is always with the families of martyrs during the painful moments." 


Inspector General of Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar directed the police personnel to focus on establishing the institution as a citizen-friendly entity. "Police performance is judged on transparency, accountability, citizens' acceptance, protection of human rights and dignity," he said.


On the occasion, the minister laid a wreath on a martyr police memorial pillar at the police headquarters.
