The assailants numbering seven or eight took teacher Kishna Chandra Yadav aka Pintu by surprise as he came out after finishing his classes and started raining blows on him with pieces of broken furniture and rods, according to students who witnessed the incident.Yadav is a part-time teacher of Health for the B.Ed. program.[break]
According to Yadav, some of the students and office bearers of the Free Students´ Union (FSU) saved him from his attackers. Yadav has received injuries all over the body including to the head. He has now returned home after treatment at Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital.
“We were on the roof of the campus just talking among ourselves and killing time. Suddenly, a group entered the campus premises and started attacking Yadav. By the time we ran downstairs to go to his aid, blood was flowing from his head,” said FSU Campus Vice-chairman Tarakeshwor Yadav. The assailants fled the scene after the students began gathering.
Yadav alleged that he was attacked under the instructions of former in-charge of the campus education faculty Ram Ashish Yadav. “Ram Ashish had been pressing me recently not to take classes but I kept on taking classes. He set the attackers on me as I did not pay him any heed,” added Krishna Chandra. Ram Ashish has refuted the allegation.
Campus Chief Dr Chiranjibilal Dev said that they will investigate the incident after meeting with the campus teachers and that the campus has already written to the police to trace the attackers.
This is not the first such incident on the campus. Three years ago, then campus chief Devi Datta Saha was beaten up severely by a group of students.
Meanwhile, FSU has denounced the incident and demanded immediate action against the guilty. Following the incident, CPN-Maoist affiliated All Nepal Free Students Union-Revolutionary organized a half-hour road block in protest.
