KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Subash Tamang has won the CMS Faldo Series Nepal Championship at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club to qualify for the Asia grand finale in Kathmandu on Wednesday. Overnight leader Tamang shot two-over 74 for a total of five-under 211 victory.
Tamang’s nearest competitor, defending champion Sukra Bahadur Rai played a round of two-under 70 to close at even-par 216 for the championship to secure his spot for the Faldo Series Asia Grand Finale.
Subash extends Faldo Series lead
Tamang and Rai will take part in the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Faldo at Laguna Lăng Cô in Danang, Vietnam, in March this year.
Sam Doublard was the runner-up in age 12-16 category with the total score of seven-over 223. He carded three-over 75 today and finished third overall. Rahul BK scored 22-over 238 and finished second on age category of 17-21.
Likewise, Kashmira Shah was the winner in the girls category with the score of 261 (45-over) and Prativa Rai was second with 275 (59-over). The winner will not get a spot in the grand finale due to poor scoring average.
The 54-hole tournament was sponsored by ISME Pvt Ltd and organized jointly by Nepal Golf Association (NGA) and Gokarna Forest Resort. Total 25 juniors from age 12-21 took part in the tournament. NGA President Tashi Ghale and senior golfer Min Bahadur Raut handed over the medals and certificates to the winners.
