KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Faldo Series Nepal Championship will tee off at Gokarna Golf Club, Kathmandu on Tuesday. The three-day event to be played over 54 holes will feature young golfers in three different categories. The top finishers of either category will qualify for the grand final of the Faldo Series Asia to be held at the Laguna Lng Co in Danang, Vietnam, in March 2017.
The fifth edition of the tournament will be an open category event and players from various Asian and European countries will vie for the place in the grand finale. The male players will compete in 12 to 16 years and 17-21 years age categories. Meanwhile, female players will have an open category of 12 to 21 years of age.
Sukra Bahadur Rai and Raju Diwakar of Nepal are among the top contenders of boys' 17 to 21 years age group. Similarly, in the boys' 12-16 years age category defending champion Tenzing Tshiring of Nepal, Dubai-based Indian golfer Aaryan Kumar and Luca from Italy are the top contenders.
Among the girls, four-handicapper from India, local favorite Pratima Sherpa and 13-year old emerging talent Devasri Rana will battle for the title.
Altogether 25 golfers will vie in the tournament including six players in 17-21 age category, 13 players in 12-16 age category and six in girls' category.
The event is being hosted by Gokarna Forest Resort in association with Nepal Golf Association.
