RAJBIRAJ, June 10: The swollen Khandokhola rivulet following incessant rain for three days has increased the risk of inundation at more than a dozen villages in the southern and northern parts of Saptari district.

Locals have said the flooded Khandokhola rivulet has put Sonara, Pakari, Dighawa, Dumari Shivathan, Mahadeva, Kajoli, Sakarpura, Rampura Malhaniya and Tilathi among other villages at high risk of inundation.

The water level in the rivulet has increased to the level the rivulet is on the verge of bursting its bank following continuous rain in the eastern hills and parts of the Tarai plains.

The rapid current of the swollen rivulet has burst the dam constructed at the no-man's land on the Nepal-India border near Tilathi.

Shyam Rajak, a local who had returned from the Indian market Kunauli across the border after shopping, said the dam has been burst nearly for 50 meters and water was gushing out.

The bursting of the dam has also disrupted transport and movement of people in the area, it is stated.

The rapid current of water flowing out after the breach of the dam swept away a motorcycle of one Ram Chandra Das who was riding it to go to Kunauli market, according to locals. Das, however, was rescued by locals and police, the District Police Office, Saptari stated. RSS
