TILATHI, Aug 8: Locals of Tilathi turned emotional as Dr Govinda KC was preparing to return to Kathmandu on Sunday. Dr KC was at Tilathi of Saptari district to run a health camp targeting floods victims.

Locals requested him to come back time and again in the village. Local civil society members, youths, women and children came to the health camp just to give him a farewell. There were queues of people waiting to take photos with Dr KC.

It is our great pleasure to have him in our village, said Dineshwar Mishra, former president of Tilathi Village Development Committee (VDC).

“He made us feel that there is someone who deeply cares for us,” he said, adding that Dr KC has become successful in spreading the message of social harmony and cooperation.

“Dr KC is the person who underwent fast-unto-death for eight times demanding reforms in health sector and medical education,” Mishra said. “It is always inspiring to have such selfless person in the village.”

Tilathi is known as a village having high literacy rate. Locals from this village have been holding good positions in various sectors. Many locals, however, do not want to return to the village and offer services, local teacher Daya Kanta Jha said. “Dr KC has given a powerful message to those who are reluctant to return to their village.”

Jha applauded Dr KC's quality of being simple, approachable and humble.

Local youths seemed very enthusiastic due to the presence of Dr KC. More than 100 youths offered volunteer service to Dr KC's health camp from Saturday.  “Dr KC is a source of motivation for the youths,” said Ratan Kumar Mishra. “He is fighting for the rights of poor youths to have access to medical education.”

He is an anti-corruption crusader, Niraj Jha, a resident of Tilathi said. “We hardly get any person as clean as Dr KC at a time when corruption is rampant in the country.”

More than 205 people from Tilathi were provided free health check-up and medicines during the two- long health camp, according to Dipendra Jha, Senior Auxiliary Health Worker of Tilathi Health Post. Dr KC has invited some people having sensitive health problem to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Dr KC decided to organize the health camp in Tilathi after hearing the news of displacement and other impact caused by floods in local rivers including Khando, Jita and Mahuli. His initiative was supported by Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Saptari.
