The match play events will be played over 18 holes except the final, which will be played over 36 holes. [break]
The first round of eight matches and four quarterfinals will be played on the first day, while the semifinals will be played on the second day. The final match and third place decider will be played on the last day.
Nepal No 1 Shivaram Shrestha will face CB Bhandari, whereas defending champion Ram Thapa will face Pashupati Sharma in the first round. Veteran Deepak Thapa Magar will play against Deepak Acharya, and Ramesh Nagarkoti against Deepak Neupane.
Likewise, Rabi Khadka is pitted against Tham Bahadur Rai of Dharan, while fellow player from Dharan Mani Rai will face Surya Sharma. Sanjay Lama will take on Jayaram Shrestha and Rajan Thapa will play against Umesh Nagarkoti.
The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 50,000 while the runner-up will bag Rs 30,000. The third-place and fourth place holders will get Rs 22,000 and Rs 18,000, respectively. The tournament´s four quarterfinalists will get Rs 10,000 each, and eight first round players will get Rs 5,000 each.
The event is part of Surya Nepal Golf Tour organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd.
Judo players selected for Nat´l Games
Judo player Saroj Maharjan of Kathmandu has been selected for the upcoming Sixth National Games through the regional selection round on Sunday.
Maharjan, who had bagged gold in the South Asian Judo Championship held in Pakistan last year, defeated Sunil Nagarkoti of Rasuwa in the men´s U-60 kg during the Central Regional judo selection being held in Batar, Nuwakot.
Other players selected in the men´s category are Kaushik Shrestha (U-45 kg) of Nuwakot, Upendra Thapa (U-73 kg) of Lalitpur and Sanjay Maharjan (U-90 kg) of Lalitpur, according to Birendra Ranjit, chief coach of judo.
In the women´s category, Sunita Magar (U-63 kg) of Kathmandu booked a berth for the National Games after defeating Namrata Subedi of Dhading in the regional selection.
Likewise, Pramila Rokaya (U-52 kg) of Kathmandu defeated Aruna Thapa of Nuwakot in the other match while Sushmita Lawati (U-44 kg) also qualified for the National Games to be held in Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar later this year. The selection for other weight categories and kata events will be held on Monday, according to chief coach Ranjit.
Gurung clinches two golds
Shiris Gurung clinched two gold medals in the International Swimming Meet in Bangalore, India on Sunday.
Gurung had earlier won a silver medal in the tournament as informed by general secretary of Nepal Swimming Association Jagat Man Shrestha. Gurung clinched gold in U-14 100 meter freestyle with one minute 04.45 seconds and 200 meter individual medley with two minutes 40.23 seconds.
In 50 meter breaststroke, Gurung clinched silver medal with 37.35 seconds timing. Along with Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and India are participating in the meet.
Odessey, Neric in final
Odyssey and Neric School on Sunday confirmed the final spot in the seventh Opel Valley Wide Inter School Basketball Tournament in junior boys´ category.
In the match played at the court of Opel School, Odyssey beat host Opel 31-23 with 10 points each from Sagar Lama and Ashok Pyakurel. In another semifinal match, Neric edged past Jagat Mandir 21-18. Abhishek Thapa scored seven points for the winning team.
