KATHMANDU, March 11 : Nepal No 1 Shiva Ram Shrestha and defending champion Ramesh Adhikari advanced to the quarterfinals of the Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play as the golf tournament teed off at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Tuesday.
Likewise, other top professionals Rabi Khadka, Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Sanjay Lama, Deepak Thapa Magar, Dhana Thapa, and Rame Magar secured berths in the quarterfinals.
‘Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play’ starts from today
Royal Nepal Golf Club pro Shiva Ram defeated Gokarna Golf Club pro Pashupati Sharma being 2 up with only a hole remaining to play. Defending champion Adhikari defeated Ram Krishna Shrestha also in 2 & 1.
Likewise, veteran Thapa Magar of RNGC defeated Dharan's pro Mani Rai whereas Army Club pro Dhana Thapa registered 2-up victory over Surya Prasad Sharma.
Also, Sanjay Lama outplayed Dharan's pro Suman Rai while Gokarna Golf Club's Bhuwan (Umesh) Nagarkoti registered a win over CB Bhandari. Rame Magar outplayed Ramesh Nagarkoti while Rabi Khadka beat Yelamber in the first round matches.
On Wednesday, Shiva Ram will face Dhana Thapa, while Sanjay Lama will take on Ramesh Adhikari. Likewise, Rame Magar will be up against Bhuwan (Umesh) Nagarkoti and Deepak Thapa Magar will face Rabi Khadka. The semifinals are also slated for Wednesday. The final match would take place on Thursday and it would be played over 36 holes.
Altogether top 16 pros of the last year's order of merit were contesting each other in the tournament, where the winner will receive Rs 50,000 and runner-up will get Rs 30,000.
