RNGC wins inter-club golf
KATHMANDU: Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) won the Inter-club Friendship Tournament held at RNGC, Kathmandu on Saturday defeating Gokarna Golf Club. RNGC won 11 of 16 matches played under matchplay full handicap format while Gokarna achieved four victories. RNGC finished with 23 points while Gokarna earned nine points. RNGC skipper Tashi Ghale and Madan Rana was the best winning pair with seven and six wins respectively over Gokarna Club captain Joseph Nathan and Prabhat Singh.
The team of Prajwalla SJB Rana and Victory SJB Rana secured the second position on countback. Tashi Tshering won the longest drive award, while Rajendra Shrestha took the closest-to-the-pin award. Both the clubs featured one women´s team each. The RNGC pair of Pavitra Yakthumba and Kalpana Limbu defeating Sonam Ongdi and Aditi Ghimire of Gokarna one-up.
KCM, Prime triumph
KATHMANDU: Host Kathmandu College of Management (KCM) and Prime College on Saturday won their respective matches in the girls´ category of Minsk KCM Basketball Bash 2013 being held in the capital. KCM defeated Kathmandu University (KU) 16-4 with seven points from Arisma Manandhar and six points from Shiwa Karmarcharya.
Similarly, Prime eased past Saipal 32-16. Gyanu Gauchan scored the highest 10 points for the winning team while Preeti Tulachan contributed seven points. In the boys´ section, K&K edged past KU 36-22 as Saroj Ghimire netted 13 points and Ravindra Chand scored 10 points for the winning side. Meanwhile, two other fixtures of the day were called off due to rain.
Western Region lifts title
BAGLUNG: Western Region clinched the title of Women´s National Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. Western Region defeated Central Region 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 in straight sets in the final held in Baglung. Nepal Police Club finished third defeating Armed Police Force (APF) in the departmental derby. The top three teams bagged Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Western Region´s captain Rishisara Thapa was declared the best lifter while Ramila Tandukar and Salina Shrestha of Central Region won the best spiker and defender awards. Police player Kopila Uprety was declared the best blocker.
