KATHMANDU, July 15: Kathmandu University (KU) became the team champion of the second edition of the Prime Minister Cup University Sports Meet on Saturday accumulating a total of seven medals. The defending champion KU retained the title bagging four of the total nine golds adding one silver and two bronze medals in the competition that featured volleyball, badminton and table tennis.


Tribhuvan University (TU) bagged three gold, three silvers and four bronze to wrap up the competition organized by National Sports Council (NSC) in second place. Likewise, the third-placed Pokhara University clinched two golds, two silvers and three bronze medals. 

Meanwhile in the summit clash of the volleyball played on the last day of the sports meet at Dasharath stadium's covered hall, TU registered straight sets victory of 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 over Far-western University.

Similarly in the match for the third position of the same event, Mid-western University defeated team champion KU in the straight sets of 25-16, 25-19, 25-21. 

Likewise, KU bagged all the four golds in table tennis including singles and doubles section of boys' and girls'. 


Karan Rai and Dipika Shrestha became champions in the table tennis' boys' singles and girls' singles events respectively. Similarly the pair of Karan and Yugesh Rai won gold in boys' doubles while the pair of Dipika and Ishika Regmi clinched gold in girls' doubles category. 


NSC's member secretary Keshav Kumar Bista, member Ganga Bahadur Thapa among others distributed prizes to the winning teams and players.
