SPORTS BRIEFS: Three Star in final at Guwahati

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Nabil Three Star Club advanced into the final of the 59th Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament 2010 after beating Assam Regiment in the semifinal on Sunday.



Goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong shined as Three Star beat Assam Regiment in sudden death in the match played at Guwahati. [break]



The regular and added time ended in a goalless draw. Anil Ojha, Raj Kumar Ghising and Bijay Dhimal scored in the tiebreaker, where Ranjeet Shrestha and Biraj Maharjan missed.



Chemjong saved two spot kicks of Assam Regiment in a tiebreaker and took the match to the sudden death. Budha Chemjong scored for Three Star and Kiran made a brilliant save to take the Nepali A-division club into the final.



Nyatapol win TT title



Nyatapol School lifted the title of the Third Bhaktapur District-wide Running Shield Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday. Nyatpol won four gold medals during the tournament along with a silver medal and two bronze medals. Everest English School, with two gold and three bronze medals, stood second in the tournament organized by Bhaktapur District Table Tennis Association. Krishna Thapa Magar and Sonu Thapa Magar of Nyatapol School were adjudged best players in boys and girls´ category respectively.


Valley Public, Gaurishankar win AIA basketball



The girls´ team of Valley Public and junior boys´ team of Gaurishankar clinched the titles of the First AIA Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Sunday.



Valley Public edged out Daffodil 21-16 in the girls´ final match held at the court of Awareness International Academy (AIA), Sankhamul. The regular time of the match had ended in a 16-16 draw. Valley Public scored 5-0 in the extra time to bounce back from a dismal performance in the first three quarters.



Choki Dolma Sherpa and Monika Thapa scored seven points each for the winners. Laxmi Shrestha of Valley Public was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Pasangala Sherpa of Daffodil was the highest scorer of the tournament with 61 points.



In the title clash of the junior boys, Gaurishankar ousted Babylon 28-19 with the help of eight points each from Sushant Subedi and Sanjay Shrestha. Anmol Rai of Babylon was adjudged the MVP while Prabesh Rai of AIA bagged the award for the highest scorer with 75 points in his kitty. Angels´ Heart and Daffodil settled for the third position in the girls´ and junior boys´ categories respectively.
