SPORTS BRIEFS: Taekwondo national team formed

KATHMANDU, April 22: Nepal Taekwondo Association on Monday announced a new national team comprising eight male and eight female players. The players were selected after a national tournament held in Lainchaur, Kathmandu and will get an opportunity to take part in the upcoming Asian Taekwondo Championship to be held in Indonesia and the World Taekwondo Championship to be held in Mexico.



The players selected in the men´s section are Tarakumar Rayamajhi (54 kg), Ranjan Shrestha (58 kg), Rohit Tamang (63 kg), Sujan Joshi (68 kg), Saksham Karki (74 kg), Anoj Pujari (80 kg), Gopal Putuwar (87 kg) and Man Bahadur Waiba (above 87 kg). In the women´s section, Rejina Karki (46 kg), Yan Kumari Chaulagain (49 kg), Sita Tamang (52 kg), Pratima Chand (57 kg), Manita Shahi (62 kg), Meera Kafle (67 kg), Pratiksha Bhandari (72 kg) and Nisha Rawal (above 72 kg) made it to the national team.[break]



Oxford beats Cosmos

KATHMANDU
: Oxford, Ace and Gurukul won their respective matches on Monday in the boys´ section of Minsk KCM Basketball Bash 2013 underway in the capital. Oxford edged past Cosmos 35-26 in the first match of the day while Ace thrashed Presidential 48-16 in the second match. Likewise, Gurukul defeated the host KCM 34-19. Meanwhile, the organizers postponed the match between KU and Prime in the boys´ section and another match between Gurukul and KU in the girls´ section due to rain.



Gurung to participate in Asian triathlon

KATHMANDU
: Nepal Army´s Rajiv Kumar Gurung is all set to represent Nepal in the Asian Triathlon Championship to be held in Subic Bay, Philippines from April 25 to 29. Gurung will participate in the sprint event, where he will have to swim 750m, cover 20km in cycling and run 5km. Gurung was selected by Nepal Triathlon Association (NTA) as he had won the triathlon championship held in Pokhara last month.



National Sports Council Vice-president Pitambar Timilsina bade farewell to Gurung amidst a function on Monday. Gurung will fly to the Philippines on Tuesday. NTA General Secretary Nilendra Raj Shrestha and official Dhaneshwar Prajapati will also visit the Philippines to attend the International Triathlon Union Technical Official Course.
