In boys´ long jump Subash Gurung of APF School finished first while Pratigya Bhandari of Bijeshwari took gold in the girls´ event. In 100m college boys´ race Roshan Pandey of Columbus College clinched gold while Dil Maya Karki of DSM College finished first in the girls´ category. Sangita Tiwari of United College won the girls´ 1500m while Laxman Kafle of Basu College clinched gold in the boys´ section.
In long jump, Bijaya Maharjan and Dil Maya Karki clinched gold in boys´ and girls´ categories respectively. In the Masters 5000m race, Mahendra Bajracharya clinched gold in the 35-49 age group, Bhim Bahadur Gurung in 40-44 age group, Krishna Gurung in 45-49 age group and Buddhabir Lama in 50-59 age group. In the masters 5000m race of 60 years and above age group, Shivaji Shrestha clinched gold while Sushma Thapa won the women´s 3000m race.
Female boxers defeated
KATHMANDU: The chances of Nepali women boxers -- Saraswati Rana and Dina Gurung -- to qualify for the London Olympics was shattered as both faced defeats in the AIBA Women´s World Boxing Championship on Saturday. Rana, from the Armed Police Force (APF), contesting in 60 kg faced 16-7 defeat at the hands of Ogoke Edith of Nigeria while Gurung (70 kg) lost her match after the referee stopped the contest while fighting against Beta Szabo of Hungary during the matches in Qinhuangdao, China.
PAM lifts judo title
KATHMANDU: PAM lifted the Second CONCIN Cup Inter Children´s home Judo Championship trophy on Saturday. PAM won seven gold, five silver and five bronze medals to lift the title. Defending champion DOCSF finished second with five gold, five silver and four bronze medals. With four gold, four silver and six bronze medals, HOPAD finished third. Altogether 98 male and 54 female judokas competed for 19 gold medals during the one-day event at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. Uttam Pradhan received the best player award in the male category while Sarada KC was adjudged the best female player.
