SPORTS BRIEFS: Simara, Jana Jyoti top groups

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Simara Public School, Bara, and Jana Jyoti Higher Secondary School, Rautahat, topped groups A and B on Tuesday in the Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Girl´s National Football Tournament.



Sapana Gole scored twice for Simara as they defeated Saint Xavier´s School, Jawalakhel 3-0. Gole scored in the 38th and 43rd minutes while Kanchan Bhatta added another in the 42nd minute. [break]



Likewise, Jana Jyoti hammered KU High School 6-0. Anchali Waiba netted a brace in the 4th and 11th minutes while Roshani Kharel, Yoshoda Lama, Srijana Lama and Renuka Nagarkoti added one each in the 30th, 39th, 56th and 60th minute respectively.



The winner among these two teams will qualify for the final round.





Raut supports former footballer Bista



KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Former president of Boys Union Club Bodh Bahadur Raut provided ailing former national football player and handball coach Ranjan Bista with a financial support of Rs 21,000. Bista is suffering from lung and bone cancer and is leaving for New Delhi, India on Wednesday for treatment.



Raut, who resides in America, supported Bista under the initiative of Nepal Democratic Sports Journalists Association (NDSJA). NDSJA President Chetan Pandey and General-secretary Nabin Aryal handed over the cash to Bista at his residence in Dhapakhel on Tuesday.
