BARA, Jan 22: Himalayan Sherpa Club has reached the semifinals of the 10th Simara Gold Cup, defeating departmental team Nepal Police Club 2-0 in a football match played at Simara Stadium, Simara, on Monday.
Tridev Gurung and Biswas Shrestha scored a goal each in the 86th minute and injury time, respectively, to win the match. Shrestha received the cash prize of Rs 10,000 after being adjudged as player of the match.
Himalayan Sherpa into Jhapa Gold Cup semis
Police club’s head coach Anant Thapa said the loss was obvious as the team was tired and it lacked preparation time before facing Himalayan Sherpa. “I am satisfied with the performance of my players. But they were tired. The organizers should realize the hectic schedule these players have to go through due to back to back competitions and consider in future.”
Likewise, Himalyan Sherpa head coach Subash Limbu also expressed satisfaction with the performance of its players. “It wasn’t our best performance, but I am satisfied with the win at the end.” Limbu further added that the players were tired after the match in Birgunj on Saturday. “We will give our best in the semifinal match,” he added.
The winner of the eighth edition of the Simara Gold Cup, CMG Sankata Club, will face Three Star Club in the final quarter-final match on Tuesday.
