SPORTS BRIEFS: Rana, Lissanevitch selected for Asiad

KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Malika Rana and Aslesha Lissanevitch have been selected to represent Nepal in women´s tennis event of the 16th Asian Games (Asiad), scheduled to be held in Guangzhou, China.



According to All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association, four players had competed in the women´s selection and Rana won all three matches in round robin to qualify in the top spot. Lissanevitch lost to Rana but won the other two matches to qualify for the second spot. [break]





Valley Public in last 16



KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Hosts Valley Public ´A´ entered the pre-quarterfinal round of girls´ section during the Fifth Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.



The hosts defeated Rato Bangala ´B´ 23-8 at their home court at Golfutar. Laxmi Shrestha scored 10 points for the winners.



Meanwhile, Valley Public ´B´, Daffodil, Prithvi, Birendra Sainik School and Innovative won their respective matches in the boys´ category on Tuesday.



Valley Public ´B´ beat Texas 22-15 while Daffodil thrashed St Xavier´s (Budhanilakantha) 17-5. Prithvi eased past Rato Bangala 18-11 and Birendra Sainik defeated Angels´ Heart 30-26. Likewise, Innovative beat Valley Public ´A´ 27-24.





Galaxy win three matches



KATHMANDU, Aug 24: The girls´, senior boys´ and junior boys´ teams of Galaxy Public School won their respective matches in the Valley-wide Inter-school Basketball Tournament-Wilson Hoops on Tuesday.



Galaxy defeated Gillette 30-24 in girls´ section after Rosy Gurung scored 20 points for the winners. Likewise, their senior boys´ team defeated Excelsior 45-24 and Galaxy emerged victorious with 27-15 when both the schools met in the junior boys´ category.



Excelsior and Teresa also won their respective matches in the girls´ category on Tuesday while hosts Wilson thrashed Greenfield 63-29 in senior boys´ category.
