Based on the result of last two matches, Police have an upper hand against the minnows of Bhutan. In two matches played, Police have conceded six goals and scored one. Yeedzin have conceded 19 goals and scored two goals. Police was defeated 5-0 by Dordoi on Kyrgyzstan and Yeedzin 11-2 by same opponent. Similarly, Police was down 1-0 by home team Phnom Penh Crown FC while Yeedzin was thrashed 8-0.
Nation-wide Budokaido from Thursday
KATHMANDU: Kisipide Budokaido Branch and Kathmandu District Sports Development Committee are jointly organizing the First Martyrs Cup and Ninth Nation-wide Budokaido Championship on Thursday and Friday in the capital. According to President of Kisipide Surya Bahadur Maharjan, the event will feature six weight categories in men´s section including 35 kg, 40 kg, 45 kg, 50 kg and open category. There will be open category in women´s section. Altogether 182 players including 155 male and 27 female players from 19 districts will compete in the event. The top three players in each weight category will receive cash prize of Rs 5,000, 2,500 and Rs 1,500 respectively. Best player will be given Rs 1,000. The expected cost of the event is Rs 471,100. Moses, Manohara into quarterfinals
KATHMANDU: Club Moses and Manohara United on Tuesday advanced into the quarterfinal of First Amarsingh Cup Seven-A-Side Football Tournament underway at the Somtirtha ground in Mulpani. In the last day of pre-quarterfinal round, Club Moses thumped past Young Heart 7-0 and Manohara defeated Gothatar United 7-3. Nirajan Rayamajhi completed hat-trick for Club Moses while Buddha Lama netted a brace. Ramesh Dangol and Ranjit Lama also score one apiece. In another match, Krishna Gopal Shrestha and Danim Rai achieved hat-trick each for Manohara United while another goal came from Sajan Bista. Sudip Paudel scored twice for Gothatar and Purusottam Chapagain scored another.
Women boxers off to China
KATHMANDU: A-two member boxing team left for Qinhuangdao, China to participate in AIBA Women World Boxing Championship to be held there from Friday. Saraswati Rana of Armed Police Force (APF) and in 60 kg category and Dina Gurung in 75 kg shall participate in the event which will also serve as the qualifiers for London Olympic. Along with Rana, Rajiv Shrestha headed Nepal Boxing Association´s secretary Sabin Bhattachary also left Tuesday in the capacity of official cum coach. Other boxer Gurung who resides in England will join Nepali team at Qinhuangdao. Gurung has been undergoing training in London, according to Rajiv Shrestha, the so-called internationally recognized boxing association. Meanwhile, National Sports Council Member Secretary bade farewell to the team on Tuesday evening and wished for their success.
Army School sets up title clash with Rajan Memorial
KATHMANDU: Rajan Memorial and Army School on Tuesday advanced into the final of the Fifth Chief of the Army Staff Inter School Running Cricket Tournament. In the semifinals played at Army School Ground, Bhaktapur, Rajan Memorial defeated Nepal Police School by 79 runs while Army school beat Galaxy School by 76 runs. Winning the toss, Rajan Memorial opted to bat first and scored 121 runs losing eight wickets. Pravin Raj Panta scored 33 runs off 20 balls while Kiran Saud scored 22 runs off 26 balls. Prajwol Ghimire grabbed two wickets and Dinesh Pandey took a wicket for Police School. Chasing the target of 122 runs, Police School was restricted to 42 runs off 7.2 overs.
Aryan Adhikari grabbed six wickets for Rajan Memorial. Basanta Chaudhary scored seven runs off four balls for Police School. In another semifinal, Army School won the toss and scored 154 runs losing four wickets. Ayush Jung Thapa was not out on 57 runs off 57 balls while Najik Bikram Rana scored 22 runs off 21 balls. Nirnaya Baral grabbed two wickets for Galaxy. In chasing the target of 155 runs, Galaxy managed to score only 78 runs losing eight wickets. Suman Kuwar and Kiran Shrestha grabbed three wickets each for Army School. Bidhan Pradhan and Pasang Sherpa scored 16 runs each for Galaxy.
Innovative, TIA lift basketball titles
KATHMANDU: Innovative and TIA on Tuesday lifted the title of Second NEA Cup Inter School Basketball Tournament in boys´ and girls´ category respectively. In the finals played at the court of NEA, Innovative registered a hard fought 30-28 victory over Kathmandu Valley in the boy´s category. Anup Raut, who was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP), scored 14 points for the winning team. Riya Thapa´s nine points guided the girls´ team of TIA to a 16-13 win over Angel´s Heart. Sweta Khanal of TIA received the MVP award.
