SPORTS BRIEFS: Gyanubaba top table

KATHMANDU, May 31: Defending champions Gyanubaba are on top of the table of the Fifth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament after the completion of first round matches on Monday. Unbeaten Gyanubaba have 18 points from six matches.



During Monday´s matches, Gyanubaba defeated Fishtail 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 in straight sets while New Diamond beat Workers Martyrs Memorial Club (WMMC) 22-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-14. Tops and Angels´ Heart both earned walkovers from Deep Jyoti. [break]



New Diamond having lost only to Gyanubaba are in the second spot with 16 points. Last edition´s runners-up Fishtail are trailing behind in the third place with 14 points from four victories and two losses. WMMC are fourth with 12 points, Tops are fifth with 10 points, Angels´ Hearts are sixth with eight points while Deep Jyoti are at the bottom with six points.





Double delight for TIA



KATHMANDU, May 31: Trungram International Academy (TIA) celebrated double victories in the First Bagmati Inter-school Basketball tournament on Monday.



In the senior boys´ category, TIA thrashed Angles´ Heart 37-22. Ashish Shahi scored 15 points for the winning side. TIA got the second delight of the day when their senior girls defeated Brihaspati Bidya Sadan with a score of 30-2. Pratibha Malla scored 18 for TIA.



In other matches of senior boys´ category, Prithvi beat Bagmati by 28-24 while Kathmandu Xavier thrashed Gayankunja by 40-12. Likewise, HIMS overcame Deep Jyoti by 37-12 and Manjugoksa beat National Model Science School by 32-8.
